Practices for the conservation of the forest biodiversity

On November 5 LIFE Eremita organized a networking event in Santa Sofia which was attended by around 100 people. Dr. Gianni Della Rocca from IPSP-CNR of Florence represented LIFE MycoRestore. Partners of other 6 LIFE projects were present (LIFE GoProFor, LIFE Fagus, SelPiBioLIFE, LIFE4Oak forests, LIFE Mipp, LIFE ESC360).

It was a technical day on different LIFE projects concerned about forest issues in the National Park of the Casentino Forests (Tosco-Romagnolo Apennines) where LIFE MycoRestore also has a demonstration area.

The importance of old growth forests as a reservoir of biodiversity emerged (as a buffer tool for resilience and contrast to climate change) in the talks. Also, attention was paid to the sustainable economic development of rural areas through the enhancement of local resources (i.e. Slow Food events, green tourism). This will ensure the survival of local communities in terms of jobs and landscape protection.

Dr. Gianni Della Rocca gave a presentation about the project, which you can download (in Italian) by clicking here.
