February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The date was proclaimed after a 2015 United Nations resolution, with the aim of promoting social awareness of the role of women and girls in scientific development and encouraging access and participation of the female gender in this field.

On the occasion of the celebration of this day, at the CEO Alto Alagón in Linares de Ríofrío (Salamanca), a female representative from the IRNASA-CSIC team, gave a conference to the center’s students that, in addition to discussing the work of renowned women scientists, showed the Life Mycorestore project as a practical and current case in which scientific studies have the outstanding participation of women.

After the conference, Laura Vaca Igualador and Zuleica García Palacios, IRNASA-CSIC researchers who study the role played by bacteria in the health of forest ecosystems, gave a practical demonstration of their work to the students.

An extremely fruitful day, important for the fight for gender equality, but also to spread the work of the project and thus increase awareness in the new generations about the environmental problems of the region and the possible solutions that science can provide to them.
